Work package 1: Benefits of RE expansion

To start with, a literature review is compiled of previous research on energy security. The analysis focuses on developing a methodology to assess the energy security of fossil and renewable energies. Here different dimensions of energy security (for example environmental protection, technological aspects, economic and sociental concerns) but also essential features of the present system (for example the efficiency, cost effectiveness, stability, reliability of energy supply) are explored and examined using selected indicators compared to a system without RE. This is done by updating the indicators developed in the BMU’s project “Economic evaluation of costs and benefit effects of RE expansion in the German electricity and heat sector”.
